We only had one egg hatch out in a batch of three eggs so we went to get the baby chick some friends from the feed store. As I was nursing my baby, my almost four year old got over to the chicks and decided to hold hers and then dropped her. I wasn't there watching (please don't flame me... she isn't supposed to be holding the chicks at all unless an adult is present and she feels terrible) but my son was in the same room and came and told me. Now baby chick is hopping around on one leg.
Closely examining it, it looks kind of old to me. It just happened an hour ago and there seems to be old crusty stuff on her leg. I admit I didn't inspect the chick carefully, my four year old picked her out and put her into the box.
This is our first chick injury. I am going to pick up some vitamins tonight (no iron!) to help her heal but what else can I do?
