Has anyone used a UV light with ozone to disinfect an area? I know you cannot have people or animals present when it is running, but is it safe afterwards - more asking about the ozone part.

Welcome to BYC. Mereks (probably the most common illness in backyard chickens) stays in the ground for a couple of years. I'm not sure of any of the other illnesses. You might have a soil test done but I don't know if mereks would show up.

There's a product called Odoban you can use to wash stuff and it kills Marek's in addition to just about everything else.

The dirt is a problem too though and I doubt you can use it for the dirt. If you did, it'd probably kill everything, but then I'd not want my chickens there to possibly eat it. I just rather like the idea of building something on the opposite side of the property and burning that one since there's obviously been death there and the cause is unknown.

Yes I am concerned about the soil as well. We have purchased a flame thrower attachment on amazon and are planning to just incinerate the area. Thank you!
