Splash? Or what?

Is this considered splash or leakage or what?
Would he be worth keeping to breed with my blue hen for more splash? This is my first time raising cochins and I think I'm addicted!
The first pic was when he was a bit younger for comparison, all the rest are recent.

He's not Splash, that's color leakage, and lots of it. He does appear to have a blue gene, as well as being split for silver and gold. However, he is not the variety Blue. I would guess he's from a mix of two different varieties.

Whether he's worth breeding or not really depends on your goals. If you just want chicks to raise out for fun, for pretty colors in your flock, or to eat, sure, he'd make those! If you want to breed toward the standard, though, he would not be a good choice for that because of his mixed color genetics.

Thank you! My goal was to have all of the above plus some extras to sell, so I will probably rehome him bc I already have a "better" cockrel. His colors are better, he has a great temperament, and he has bonded well with my pullet! They are quite the inseparable pair!!!

I wish I could keep all of them, but I'm already rooster heavy! My solution was to buy more hens/pullets to go around but my bf has informed me that my addiction is showing and I need intervention! 🤦‍♀️lol

How old is daphne? Do you have any pictures of her as a chick? I have a blue cochin that I’m trying to guess pullet or cockrel. But can’t find any pictures of young cochins for some reason.

She and Bruce were both hatched on Valentine's day. I have another cochin roo hatched at the same time, and I will tell you that both my boys got RED wattles and combs fairly early! I actually have a thread on here with pics from when they were younger til more recent asking about their sex! I'll see if I can figure out how to link it here!

This is both of them back on May 5th

Here's a fairly recent pic of Rocky Balboa (hatched with Bruce and Daphne) just for comparison. If my math is right, they are right at 19 weeks.

Forgive the terrible quality but the 2 circled are both the boys! This was early March when we got them. All I took when they were babies was video. We also had the bantams mixed in with full size chicks hatched the same day so there were 10 total and it was tough keeping everyone figured out!

This next one is at 6.5 weeks and it's got Daphne, Rocky, and another bantam cochin pullet (same age) that we lost to predator.

Hope this has been some help! Sorry I didn't have more chick pics! My best indicator for the cochins has been combs and wattles. Hope you have a pullet! You might post a pic here and I can give you my best guess!

Thank you for all the pictures it’s easing my nerves.
