The AMERAUCANA thread

Pics
Hello everyone! I wanted to start a thread where you can show off, learn about, or teach others about ameraucanas. I don’t own this breed… yet, but I have 3 eggs in the incubator! Your birds must be true Ameraucanas only! If you are not sure you are welcome to ask!
@EmmaRainboe

Please tag anyone else who owns ameraucanas! :)

I got three blue ameraucana pullets ( I hope) They look quite grey, do they turn bluer as they get older ? They are the friendliest and smartest little gals, also escape artists 🙄. They have integrated well with my little flock of Barnevelders. They are about 8 weeks old now.
What is the difference between an Easter egged and an ameraucauna?
Of course, my Barnevelder rooster had to fotobomb

Easter eggers dont have muffs or beards, plus i think amarucanas lay blue eggs! My black sex link rizo is ALWAYS photobombing! 🤣
also sense EE’s are mixes, they could have small muffs and or beards, but its not the same, and usually rare and faint.

I love my lavender Ameraucanas soo much! 😍 Their names are Fluff and Puff and they have the best personalities and are super good with my kids and love to visit me. They fight like sisters and love each other too. 😁 I used to be a huge fan of Orpingtons…until I got these cuties! I find every excuse to share pics of them hehe. They’re just the best 😍😍

Love the photo bomber hehe!

Easter Eggers are awesome chickens, but they’re not Ameraucanas because they are a cross of two breeds. Depending on the crossing the eggs can be a number of different colors (not from the same bird though haha). EEs will often be crossed with a true Ameraucana, and often will lay blue eggs. However, if the cross is say an Ameraucana and a brown egg layer you might get green eggs. True Ameraucanas will only pay blue eggs and will breed true. They will always have muffs, always have a pea comb, only come in a few colors usually wheaten, blue wheaten, blue, black, splash, and lavender. They also always have slate colored legs. EEs can be lots of neat colors, muffs or no muffs, pea combs or other types of combs, lay colored or not colored eggs depending on the cross, and are not going to breed true when crossed with another EE, since they’re a mixed breed. Both are awesome, and I may need an EE or three in some neat colors in the future 🙃 your blue pullets are very pretty! It’s tough to tell if they’re true or not based on the pictures. Would need to see combs, legs and muffs up closer :)

*Ameraucanas*

How many EEs have you owned? They can have a large beard AND muff. Its not a breed trait, since they are not really a breed. That being said, I have settled with an EE being an EE when they have a blue egg gene somewhere in their somewhat recent background. This can be EExEE or EExanything, both crosses produce EEs. Most EEs that exist are EEs crossed with EEs.

Ameraucanas lay blue eggs, have white skin, have to be in a recongized color (APA), have to have pea combs (cannot have a modified pea), have to have a beard and muff, and have slate colored shanks.
