What did you do in the garden today?

Just got back went by the farm and the county coop. Got layer feed and straw. No luck on the seeds though. They said they don’t know when if at all they will get any in.

Seeds won't come out here till like February.
I still have many lettuces and such just need to find time to get at it

I planted 5 Drift roses today. They are three gallon size and were half off in price so it was a major deal for three white ones and two apricot in color. They have great root systems and the soil is in good condition for planting now in central Virginia. These rose varieties have attributes like the knockout ones, but are shorter in stature and like their name indicates, they have a low mounding to sprawling habit. Both of the colors I planted have double blooms repeated throughout the growing season.

I LOVE Roses. I've been propagating the local wild roses and planting them in the hedgerows.

Went to town with the Boy today in his new truck. Grabbed some yarn for another project I'm back engineering. I needed something to do while taking work breaks during our snowstorm tomorrow.

Anybody composting through the winter?

I don't enjoy turning the compost in the cold, and if the pile cools off to much itb week freeze, and it impossible to turn without a pick.

We compost all winter, but I turn with a tractor....so.....ya
We've been so dry though I know there's nothing going on in there.

We also compost all winter, but also my pile is chest high sometimes from rabbit bedding... I just don't turn it. It cooks all winter and the snow melts on it very quickly from the heat.

We compost all year need to put a roof on keep the rain out

I compost all winter but it is a 4 foot pile, so no turning.
