Silkie

Pros: Broody
Cons: Can be to broody?
These are by far my most broody chickens of all! They make wonderful pets and so easy to become attached to. I have one black silkie hen which became broody and would not leave her nest until those eggs hatched. She had 15 eggs in all and every one of them hatched. She is a wonderful mommy. She shows her chicks how to be well, chickens,. With scratching for food and drinking water. She is very protective of her babies. I highly suggest this breed if you are looking for a broody breed chicken or just want an awesome pet.

Sizzle

Pros: Wonderful as pets, Joy in a small package
Cons: Loves to Crow morning, afternoon and evening!
The Silkie and Frizzle cross bred hybrid chicken! You can not help but smile when you look at a sizzle chicken. Sometimes you'll even want to laugh at them because they are just THAT cute. We have a black sizzle rooster who recently became father to ten new born chicks. We now have our second generation of sizzles. Sizzles are fairly new and unique in their feathering and on their way to becoming a recognized new breed of bantam chicken. They definitely come with a whimsical overdose of cuteness. They maintain the calm nature of the silkie too. Our sizzle rooster will sit on your lap for hours if you let him.

Pros: makes great pets
Cons: can be rather noisy
We have one black rooster and he's nothing but a show off around the hens. He is a great pet but loves crowing!
Pros: egg producing
Cons: aggressive rooster
We have two hens and one rooster. The hens are wonderful to have and love free ranging and our's don't seem to eat as much feed as the other breeds. They will run away if they think you are going to try picking them up however. "Good egg production"
Pros: Lovely eggs,
Cons: flightly
The beautiful dark, speckled extra large eggs the color of Terra cotta! Rather flighty at times. This is a great breed to have around a mixed flock. My three girls are friendly but don't like to be held.

Marans

Pros: Wonderful dark brown eggs, alert and hardy
Cons: Aggressive male at times
We have three from this amazing breed. We have the french standard with the feathered legs and toes. Our two pullets are very friendly. The male however can be somewhat aggressive but overall I wouldn't trade him for the world. If you want deep dark chocolate colored eggs go with the Maran breed! The only drawback I've seen is wishing they would lay a few more eggs than they do. The average in laying eggs for us is 3 per week per pullet at this time. The maran egg is highly sought after by top chefs!
Pros: Calm, friendly
Cons: none I can find
We have three pullets and I have to say they are probably the most calmest of the breeds we have. They are all very friendly and non-aggressive to other chickens. They enjoy being held too!

Campine

Pros: Friendly Interesting
Cons: Flighty
We have one Golden Campine pullet and she's as fun as can be. She is the first chicken to run up to greet me in the morning. She loves free ranging and I'll even find her sitting on the front porch in the .am morning hours. The only drawback I can find in raising the golden campine might be their flightiness and they can be rather loud at times. If you live in the country I highly recommend this breed.
Pros: Great source for heat when needed.
Cons: Could blow out any time. Have a spare on hand.
A complete necessity when raising small chicks. I use the 250W and always red to help stop pecking,

Pros: Beautiful Birds!
Cons: None I know of!
Calm, layed back chickens at their finest! Beautiful and loving breed. Ours love attention even as baby chicks!
Pros: Make Beautiful adults
Cons: Flighty and loud noise makers
We have bought two of these from the assorted bantams section at TSC and ours are still very young but right away they want to try flying out of the brooder when they see us walking up to them. They are also very vocal and loud and at times 'peep' non-stop, lol! From all I've been reading in reviews however, they make wonderful birds so we'll post updates as ours grow.

Pros: Beautiful birds
Cons: smaller eggs
It's true they lay 'smaller' eggs and maybe not as many as other breeds do, but they more then make up for that with their calm manners. Beautiful birds to have around the yard! We have two of these and love ours. The Brahma will be a breed we hope to raise forever!

Pros: Able to know what sex you are getting
Cons: ours just seem 'skiddish' at times.
The wonderful thing about red sex-links for people new to chickens would be the ability to confidently know for sure what gender you are buying. If you only want hens then this might be a good choice for you. We have 6 of these wonderful birds, all females. They are calm and GREAT large brown egg layers! Many hatcheries create their own brand names for sex link chickens.
Pros: Gentle, calm and patient, beautiful,
Cons: Can be rather broody at times
I think by their docile, calm manner buff Orpingtons make great birds for people who are just starting out raising backyard chickens. They are very sweet birds and grow up nice and large. Since the mothers go broody very easily you can have a set up where the flock reproduces and continues for many generations. They are very cold hardy birds and will and lay well through cold winters. Nice layers of large brown eggs.

Pros: feeds eight chicks at the same time
Cons: always has bedding inside it
This feeder works very well for small chicks. It is made of strong and sturdy heavy weight plastic. I did replace the 1 quart 'plastic' jar with a mason glass jar for added weight to reduce chances of tipping over. Overall I am very happy with the product and price. It should hold up well through many years of use.
