Do you have a photo? I'm not versed in chicken genetics but I can say that I had an SG that was darker than the rest. So dark, she appeared black until she stood next to a black hen that I had. She might just be a very dark blue. If you can see any difference in the depth of color at the edge of...
Ours laid small eggs at first...questioned what I'd read that eggs are big. But after a couple months, they really ramped up! Hoping yours are prolific layers of large eggs without the side of 'mean'!
Wow....that's sounds so similar. Ours really pull out feathers when roosting as well. Though I witness it during the day too. I bought all but one saddles...she's head hen...no one pecks her...and I put her and the 2nd worst feather plucker in a separate coop. But she was doing a number on the...
Haven't been on here in forever. Not much time to write but wanted to weigh in. Our girls are over a year now. Some are super friendly...others super flighty but not uncatchable. They are very pushy when they want treats but also lay large eggs. Typical for us is around 75 to 80 grams though...
LOL No, we have a regular bulb in the coop. That's on my kitchen counter....I used to ferment chicken food in there. ...then it became a terrarium for an ivy plant that was doing great until we placed a Google receiver on the counter and then the plant died (one of the reasons I've become so...
Well, we're back up to 7 eggs a day. Had to turn lights on due to schedules...can't get out to feed them in the evening while it's still light. One SG is laying huge eggs...weighed one and it was 88 grams (3.10oz) and yes, scale was tared. Seems all her eghs are around 80 g. Guess lighting was...
No one is betting they're house on this. ..it's just for fun and it can't hurt to surmise how it might be accurate. If I had time to research this via actual Science, I'd probably learn a lot about energy, alloys, and all sorts of interesting things. But I'm too busy working, fixing up a house...
It's still fun to try...keeps us busy while we wait for more convincing physical attribites to come in. No harm in having fun and guessing what could possibly make such a test accurate...even if it is a stretch....
So a few of you got your SGs around the same time as I did. In late August, we were getting--on average--7 eggs a day. 5 some days, 6 some days, also 7, 8, or 9. We have 8 SGs, 3 EES and 3 other fluff-mutts as well. Based on breed, age, color of eggs, and size of eggs, I was fairly certain the...
Alloys are ;) And i cant say for certain the ring isn't just dipped in gold. But I'm assuming it's pure. So there you are correct. As for our bodies, they emit energy...as does every other substance on Earth. We are constantly reacting to our environment whether we realize it or not. I don't...
I just used what I'm assuming is a pure gold ring from a great, great, grandparent. Tied a thread to it and just let it hang as still as possible abo e the chick. This time around, the results were odd. The ring swung one direction first and then indicated the opposite on a few of the birds. I...
I only have 2 laying and not every day...and they're small! Ack! But we feed the organic grain and I hear that I should expect growth and laying to take longer as it doesnt have ingredients that accelerate growth. I hope that's all it is. With shipping, I'm paying $50ish a bag...and feeding 25...
Both are pullets. Here are 2 pics at 5ish months that shows how fast/slow some mature...the first is a lagger haha The second shows one in between and one that matured really fast and also has her comb flopping over <3
Pics would help but I agree with ^^^. Ours are now 5 months and I STILL have disparity among pullet combs. Some are red and obvious...some are small and still pale. Sounds to me as though you got 2 girls. Look forward to those pics! :)
For those of you that are interested, Freezer and Camper were dispatched Sunday :( They were accustomed to being held often so it was a relatively quiet exit...as it should be. Their hatch date was 2/12/18 so they were about 5 months old...don't feel like doing the math for exact # of weeks...
Ours are fairly light...but still brownish. The first egg one laid was Halloween-worthy... no blood since then so think it was just the first egg pushing out!
