Chicks keep putting heads under hot water bottle?

I am using an old fashioned method of keeping my chicks warm with a hot water bottle and I have noticed that my chicks like to put their heads underneath it will they smother or suffocate from doing this?

Can you get a picture of the water bottle set up with the chicks next to it?

I'd be a little concerned about the bottle rolling over them. Maybe create a couple of U shaped pieces of wood to brace the bottle and prevent rolling?

It does not look like they have the strength to get underneath it to me.
I wouldn't worry too much about them getting underneath it but I would move it away from the edge of the box so they can get all the way around it.

Get another box or two to tape together. That one will be too small in a day or two.

It's normal chick behavior to get under mom to get warm and safe, they are trying to do that. If you can take a smaller box and put it over the bottle, like a cave, that might satisfy their instinct. Just make sure they can't get trapped or stuck. They will outgrow that box very quickly, so I would work on something bigger, sooner rather than later.
