I bought two Sapphire Gem chicks to be friends with a chick I hatched and I was told there was a 90% chance of them being hens. With them being sex-linked chicks I thought you guys could help me figure out their genders.

I'm no expert at all, but from what a quick search tells me, males would have a light spot on top of their head. Neither of those do, so presumably they're female - but sexing is only 90% certain, so there's room for error. And, as stated - I'm no expert. On Hoover's website, it shows a male and female chick. The male actually has a darker face... but if you look closely, on the crown of his head there's a blond-ish spot. Neither of yours have that.

We purchased 2 listed as sapphire gems from a straight run from TSC. I have read that males have a white spot on their heads. The one that does has long wings like the females we bought the same day of another breed. The other has short wings, but doesn't seem to have a spot. I know it's a fairly new breed and sexing early is not 100%. I would like to know thoughts though. Pics are of them almost 2 weeks old.

I’m noticing the same difference with my two week old Sapphire Gems. Did you find an answer?

The one with a white spot also has bars of white in the wing feathers. I think it is a cockerel. (They seem to be like Black Sexlinks, except that they're blue--so barring means male, no barring means female.)
