How interesting, developing a breed only for the purposes of hatching pheasant eggs! The more you know.

I am no expert on breeds but have a fair bit of experience breeding mongrels so I would just like to add that you can get animals almost identical to any purebreed out there from random combinations of complete mongrels. I mean real mongrels too, no crosses or purebreds for many, many years on both sides.

So far I have produced many mongrels who could be positively ID'd as belonging to various breeds, especially rarer ones, but of course they're utterly random mixes. Some I would guess to be throwbacks perhaps. Amazing, the variety that crops up.
