A couple of years ago I inherited three hens from a neighbor who didn't want chickens any more. Two mostly white older ladies who passed on a couple of years ago. The third one, (pictured) is a brazen little lady, meaner than snake scat! From the moment she entered my flock, she rose to second in command next to the rooster! She "told" everyone where to roost in the hen house. Some were banished and couldn't enter until almost dark! I couldn't believe it, she was half the size of my Black Copper Marans ladies, but nobody could dispute she was at the top of the pecking order! It only took two days for her to assume control, and this included control over two junior roosters in the flock. She would chase them mercilessly!
I think she might be part Bantam and what else, I don't know! She has a large comb and wattles, an upright tail, clean light colored legs, (with no leg feathers) is white with black spots. She lays pure white eggs. I hope someone has an idea of her breed.
Her blood has influenced my whole flock. Her daughter is bigger than she, looks like a Barred Rock is and a true wild child. She lays light beige eggs and her offspring all lay dark eggs like the Marans. Strangely, both of her male offspring look like Barred Rocks and the females are all black.
