You can never be too careful. Chickens can be very prone to sickness. I personally think that if someone is going to sell a chicken, they should move it somewhere by itself and do a checkup on it, make sure that the chicken is healthy. Thankfully you quarantined the chicken from your others...

What makes you think male? It doesn't really have anything that looks like a comb. And when being fully feathered, the comb of a cockerel should be prominent.

Okay, since it does have tail feathers then it definitely is a chicken. I am definitely thinking a mix breed. It looks like it might be missing some feathers on it's face near the base of it's beak as well, making it look a little different.

The leg color very well could change. I had a chick I hatched that had very cartoonish yellow legs when he was a baby and now he has very pale, almost white, legs.

The chick does not look to have a tail? And it definitely is not a rumpless chicken because those things look... weird. If it does not have a tail, or much of one, it could very likely be a quail.

That could be possible, we need a better picture to confirm and see if it is just the angle. You are right though, it does look quail-like but that could just be from it being hunched over because it is scared and not feeling too good.
