    Help! Two chicks with wounds

Thank you! I’m unable to get a photo right now but maybe it was a mouse or rat…? It just happened out of nowhere and overnight. The brooder is in a small shed. It’s a large gerbil type cage. A rat or mouse would be able to reach through but I’m not sure they’d be able to actually get into the...

    Help! Two chicks with wounds

Two of my four 2-week old chicks have fresh wounds. They did not have these yesterday! The other two have no wounds. What could this be from?? Are they hurting each other? There was none of this with the other seven older chicks who were in the same brooder when they were little. I don’t think...

Black Australorp chick - male or female?

Thanks everyone!! I’m going with pullet for now then and will update to confirm when she lays an egg (or crows)!

Need help identifying this chick’s breed

She looks incredibly similar to my Easter Egger, except mine has a much darker head.

Black Australorp - Roo or Pullet 5 weeks old

How are these two looking now? I’m in a similar situation with my 8-week old Australorp. Cannot decide if it’s a cockerel or pullet still!

Black Australorp chick - male or female?

Maybe I’ll have to wait until there’s an egg or a crow! Im already this deep into it though so may as well keep updating until one of those two things happen 😂

Black Australorp chick - male or female?

Another update on my now 8ish-week old black Australorp! Any new bets on pullet vs. cockerel? I’m just kept guessing with this bird! It’s such a sweetheart and really loves being pet and held. The comb and wattles are just SOO red and much larger than all the girls’, and very comparable to the...

Aggressive behavior or normal pecking order shenanigans (cockerel)?

Yes, unfortunately Dale will either go to a new home or into the freezer at some point as I can’t risk anything happening to my little one. i’d like to have a rooster later down the line though!

Aggressive behavior or normal pecking order shenanigans (cockerel)?

Thanks! I don’t plan on keeping him for this very reason, but my two options are either give him away and be honest if I think he’s aggressive, or wait until he’s big enough for freezer camp, in which case I still have to wait a little while. I haven’t decided for sure which option I’m going to...

Aggressive behavior or normal pecking order shenanigans (cockerel)?

Thank you! That makes me feel better! Yeah, the girls do have little stand offs occasionally but not like this. My son just started chasing them this week, and I’ve been stopping him immediately and teaching him not to. I definitely do not tolerate it, I just wanted to put it out there that the...

Aggressive behavior or normal pecking order shenanigans (cockerel)?

My 7-week old Faverolles cockerel, Dale, already seems aggressive to me, but I’m not sure if it’s just rooster behavior and establishing his dominance in the flock. Never had roosters before. There are six pullets (all 7 weeks as well). He seems to pick on every single one of the girls. Just...
