Some of my 7 weekers surprised me with eggs today! Some of them have a green/blue tint.

I have a question! Do quail use nesting boxes like chickens? I would assume probably not, but just thought I would ask out of curiosity.

They don't usually, although some have a favorite spot to lay. Pretty much they just lay wherever they are standing when the urge hits them. If I can keep the sand boxes full (they throw sand everywhere), then they usually lay in the sand box.

My little (almost two week old) quailies just sleep wherever too. I made them all sorts of little nests &hiding places.. gave them an igloo..
Nup. Just stretch out on the straw!

@HuffleClaw how many eggs are you getting? How exciting for you, it'll be a great winter project!

I raise my quail in the garden on the ground. They have bins and old plant pots I cut the bottoms off for hidey holes and cover and plants in there too.

Ok.. time for a really dumb noob question..

With my baby cortunix quails, there are 3 distinct colors appearing.

Brown striped
All Yellow
Light Speckled

Does this mean the birds are unrelated? Or do siblings throw different colorings? (I assumed that you'd have to mix up the gene pool to get different colors)
