Really sick of this weather. May 8th. On the bright side, we’re looking forward to a high of 54 by Saturday. Today we’re supposed to have 4-6” of snow.

Apparently it's good to live quite a ways north of you. Not exactly warm and toasty, but no snow!

Duckling was about to win the “incubate quail eggs now!” argument. I was going to get out an incubator as soon as she said it today.
Then I went to check the hidden duck nest. 14 eggs yesterday, and no one was acting broody. I left it to see who’s it was. Today a viper Pekin was clear on her intent. The problem is that only duck “allowed” is the Muscovy.
Quail eggs might have to wait a bit longer.

What would be the most secure kind of lock/handle/hardware for opening/locking an aviary? We have raccoons, possums, foxes, coyote, neighborhood cats, etc. The aviary will be secure with hwc, redwood framing, 10000+ washers, and cemented redwood posts.

Also should i get motion sensor flood lights for facing away from the aviary? I think I'm going to put little garden solar lights up the path, unless that proves more inviting to predators

I watched these scare away a bear yesterday (they are STILL coming by and trying to get on our porch, the little butts). They were recommended to be my someone who used them on grizzlies. Mount em lower for raccoons and coyotes!

We got one of those for our driveway. It works great... too great sometimes. Now we know about every deer that goes by.

They are, um....effective. And loud. Very very loud. I actually have mine on quiet and it still scared the bear.

I would like to say that wrangling fifty quail outside and back again twice a week using a cat carrier and a butterfly net is....interesting.
