Yes I think it was pulling his leg into a jacked up position.
And no...
That was just hatch gunk stuck to him.

They don't poop that soon after hatch.
 
Did a day 5 candle on my homegrowns. 13 look fertile, 6 uncertain and 1 early quitter. Most of the uncertain are eggs that are definitely from the younger layers.

I was thinking all of them would be from the young rooster too but I read something about how long eggs can be fertile after a rooster is removed. The original rooster was with them until just a few days before I started collecting. Anyone know how that works in quail?
