What're all y'all recommending for a roo to hen ratio for coturnix & bobs? And at what age do you usually separate them from being a single group?
I don't do bobs.

I have kept 3 hens per roo and up to 6 per roo.

I will seperate once I know who is who/once I see the first sign of fighting.

My youngest are 6 weeks old today and I have not yet seen any fighting (besides the one I offed a few weeks ago)nor am I sure who is who so I haven't seperated yet.

I'm sure I will be butchering some any day though.

My Bobs are 5 weeks now, but they're much slower to mature than Coturnix. I'm sure I'll be asking you tons of questions as my new babies mature. I get aggravated at the ones that'll grab the little ones toes and drag them around like they're huge worms or something, tiny bullies.

The white genes confuse me in that no one has info on which strains carry which and I don't have any to test breed. I think dotted white is dominant too. :idunno

I keep breeders at one male to 5 hens. Fertility was great a couple months ago. Foam everywhere. Zack says the boys slow down at 6 months and these are getting towards 4 months old. Fertility fell off, but I'm blaming the weather, the light and moving coops.

I pull aggressive males as needed. Got a new cage for solitary confinement. May get to try it out. The last male scalped one of his hatchmates. Easy to tell who it was, it was the one crowing all the time and chasing everyone. Put in with the other males for selection, he was mating everyone else. He got unselected for attitude.

I'm still pretty new to this. My current covey has one roo and six hens. I had two roos, but my falb fee started picking on the silver, so now I just have the silver. This last hatch I put four eggs in from my covey, but none of them were fertile. They're still young and not laying regularly, though.

Make sure you aren't keeping them too hot.
