āž” Quail Hatch AlongšŸ„š

I have 30 Celadon eggs in the incubator from Quail Tale Covey. They are supposed to hatch 95% true for Celadon layers. They were shipped Monday and arrived Thursday morning. Went into incubator at 8am Friday morning. Hoping for a good hatch rate.

I also put in 30 eggs eggs local pickup from Myshire Farms. 10 pearl fee, 10 pansy, 10 Autumn Amber. I think they should have a great hatch rate since they were local pickup, laid Thursday and put into incubator on Friday.

Counting Friday, July 10 as day zero. Would lockdown day be July 25 or July 26? Would hatch day be 27 or 28?

I was wondering how the rest of your hatch went?

Ok we managed to gently pop the top off, it didn't bleed and the chick is still peeping. It looks like the membrane is still fairly white and supple so we left most of it on and put it back in the incubator. It's wiggling a little so hopefully it will find the strength to kick out soon.

Thanks for asking! 5 out of 7 have hatched, though the temperature must have been a bit too low as 3 popped out one day late, and two more have hatched today. The one that was assisted seems to be doing well, but the two newer ones are getting picked on a lot in the brooder, so we've had to put them in a separate smaller box inside it for now.

Please correct someone, when I misscount, but lock-down is on the 15th day, which would be in your case, when started on Friday 10th, on Friday 24th at 8h am.
Hatch day would be Sunday 26th.

These are Coturnix quail. I thought hatch was 17-18 days.

I thought the 15th day was lockdown, so Saturday the 25 at 8 am? But I am new to this.

I have seen some people count the day they put the eggs in as the first day and some people count that as day zero....

I've done only one hatch before. Also Coturnix quail eggs. I put them in June 21st, did lockdown July 5th and they were born July 9th. I think my temperature might have been a little bit low so I've raised to a tiny bit for this hatch. If you count the day that I put the eggs in as day 0 that means they were born on day 19. If you count the day that they were put in as day 1, they hatched on day 20.

I don't count day 0 or day 1 ... I count 14 days turning, this is two weeks and in this case a week starts on Friday and ends on Thursday. So Friday 24th is the 15th day, lock-down day.

And hatch day is the 17th day +/- which is in this case Sunday 26th +/-

I hatch like this since my first hatch, and my hatch rates are good.
I started incubation of my Celadons last Sunday at 12h noon, so next Sunday 12h noon is lock-down. Very simple to count.

This day 0 or day 1 was also confusing me in the beginning. So this is my system, working good.
