36 inch hardware cloth really 35.5??

I swear this never happened in building chicken enclosures: I bought fresh rolls of 1/2 inch HWC. the 24 inch x 5 foot really is 24 inches.

But the 36 inch is really 35.5. WTF?? Bought new from Home Depot.

Sure, they could possibly get away with it, the last half inch is "invisible" has no cross pieces. But really??

I know 2/4 lumber is 1.5x3.5. but HWC is supposed to be what it says.

2 x 4's start out as 2 x 4's but after planning....they lose some! 1.5" x 3.5"
