Any fellow rock hunters?

What do agates look like on the outside?
There is a huge variety… most of them are going to have a pitted, waxy or “plastic-y” texture to them. They come in every color imaginable. Where I live, it’s common for the outside to be a red/orange tint, due to iron content in the mineral.
Here are some whole agate nodules before cutting them open.

There are hundreds of thousands of varieties of agates… sometimes I bring home ones I think will be good and they are a “dud” once I cut them open.
