I am particularly spoiled with the rocks around here though, I will admit.

Keep looking, they are all over! It may be helpful to look on rock hounding forums to find the closest known deposit to you. Or come visit Lake Superior and walk the shores for a few hours! One will turn up.

There is a huge variety… most of them are going to have a pitted, waxy or “plastic-y” texture to them. They come in every color imaginable. Where I live, it’s common for the outside to be a red/orange tint, due to iron content in the mineral.
Here are some whole agate nodules before cutting them open.

There are hundreds of thousands of varieties of agates… sometimes I bring home ones I think will be good and they are a “dud” once I cut them open.

yes, there is a spring turkey tag you can get just like deer tags and if you want a second one - you can buy the special spring turkey tag.
