Hi! First time with a leghorn and she is a true leghorn. Used to sleep in trees and is finally laying beautiful white eggs over the last several weeks her comb has just kept growing and flopped over very quickly. Whenever I look up pictures of these birds online I don’t see many combs THIS big! Just curious if it’s normal/healthy and what to look for to make sure it’s staying healthy. Also, my “top hen” has been seen actually grabbing the leghorns comb with her beak when trying to control who’s allowed to eat. Mean girl. Is that okay? So far no blood has been seen. Just some small black spots that went away. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you chicken fam!

That comb is exactly how my white leghorns combs look, so cool. I’d say for sure that the mean hen may damage your girls combs but I don’t know how you will be able to stop it from happening. As far as other comb care, those large combs get frost bitten easily in super cold damp weather. You can read up on prevention but I think the easiest thing is to apply Vaseline when the temps get dangerous.

I have two brown leghorns. They were sold to me as Ameraucana chickens. The looked identical at first when they were little but once they started getting bigger I realized they were not the same chicken. They were way more slender and didn't have rose combs. I started doing research and realized they were brown leghorns.
Mine now have huge flopped over combs and large waddles. It is unbelievable how large the combs are on this type of hen.
Yours are very normal. Enjoy your big white eggs!!

This typical in hatchery Leghorns. The standard calls for a flopped over comb after the first two points, but not covering the eye.

I don't know specifically about the RC Brown Leghorns, but the single combs are a flightier bird. If you run them outdoors they are better at avoiding predators because they can be wary and also blend in with the surroundings since they have the "wild type" colouration.
