For any chance of success I think the mated pair and the chick need to be separated or better yet the other pigeons could be separated if that’s reasonable for you. When breeding is going on the other males can be extremely aggressive to pigeon squabs. Normally, the squabs are stuck in the nest and defended by the parents. I think the pigeons would struggle to protect the chick from other pigeons.Hello, I to see how old is thread is, but just in case somebody sees it I have some questions. I just hatched a chicken from our pigeons, and they are very very protective of it. I think they will raise it. I put chick feed and water right outside the box. A friend raised the question that what if the chick tries to eat the pigeon, food and chokes. She raises chickens I don’t, but I was wondering if anybody who had success or a failure could inform me. I think we’re on day two of they baby chicks life. The other concern I have is that the pigeons live with other pigeon so I did read that separating them out might be a better option for the check to try to survive. Thanks for any insight!
