Distance from Red Heat Lamp to Chics?

We are getting 10 chicks and have a 175w bulb in a 2'×4' box. Hoping this will be good as so far we couldn't get a 250w bulb.

What what bulb do you use when you put them outside? A 250w?

I actually use a heat plate Instead. I chose it because it’s much safer (less risk of fire) and it’s more natural (constant light, intense heat all over the brooder, etc, is not a natural environment).
