Thank you guys for all of the suggestions.
I think I will continue on with the bait for now. We are seeing hardly any sign of the rats in the last couple days. So I am going out tomorrow and burying all of the tunnels and I will watch it daily for any new signs. I am going to add the Cayenne, and definitely going to plant some mint.
As far as lifting the coop, it is only 2 years old extremely overbuilt for a chicken coop, which is why raising it would be the very last option. We would have to totally change how the run is attached (which is not small either) and I don't think I would be able to convince my hubby that this is the route we need to go.
