Hello all, new chicken mama Cassie here. I ordered 11 pullets from MMH that are now almost a month old, so of course I am now playing the paranoid “pullet or cockerel??” game. I thought I’d introduce the ladies and see if any of you experienced eagle-eyes notice something I hadn’t, especially if you have breed-specific experience (I.e. - males of such-and-such breed often have x colored breast feathers, etc.). I’m going to do a post for each so I can add good pictures and so it’s easy to respond. I’ll put the ones who are giving me pause first.

I have:
2 “Ameraucanas”/EEs
1 Whiting True Blue
1 Welsummer
2 Speckled Sussex
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte
1 Columbian Wyandotte
1 Light Brahma
1 Black Star
1 Whiting True Green

Here’s a few of my favorite girls playing in our greenhouse:

First up is our cross beak chick, Honey. She’s a blue egg layer, not sure if she’s an EE or the WTB. We noticed her cross beak starting to develop at about a week old and it’s gotten a bit worse since, but she still eats and drinks well. She doesn’t preen very well though, so she looks disheveled. She is my most skittish chick, not friendly at all. Her pea comb started becoming more pronounced earlier than my other pea combed chicks, but is not reddening up at all yet.

Day 1 of having her home, probably my cutest baby

Now she’s a funky looking chick haha!

PS - you guys are fast! I’m having phone storage issues so it’s taking awhile to make the posts.

Next up is Edith. She’s a Welsummer, and I think her feathering and face shape are just beautiful. She had better be a girl, because I cleaned her poopy butt so many times!!! She has the most pronounced, reddest comb and wattles out of my whole flock. She’s fairly skittish too. Loves to roost. Squares up with the others quite a bit.

I'd go with pullet for now. With the cross beak, you may need to trim it on occasions. As she gets older, do regular checks she is able to eat and drink.
