didn't go so well. I bought this beautiful rooster (I wanted to hear him crow) Im not sure what breed he was. I put him in a pen next to the duck pen. We had 3 dogs but they stayed in a pen in the back of the house. This rooster was funny. He thought he was a duck. He ran with them and went they went into the pond so did he! Needless to say he wasn't happy when he got out. He was a Mother's Day present from my son. My husband let the dogs out to run one day a week later and the next thing I knew Chaunteclair was dead. I learned then that dogs and chickens sometimes don't go together.

I am so sorry about your rooster. It is a sad lesson to learn.

Dogs are natural predators and it is an exceptional dog that does not try to eat or play with chicks or adult chickens. Unfortunately, some kill for the fun of it.

A lot of people have livestock guardian dogs, which are a whole different story. They are bred and raised to guard instead of prey on livestock.
