Sharpie on Eggs for Eating?

I use pencil to date the eggs. However, I had empty eggshells that I painted and used sharpie on for a decorating contest, and when I broke them apart, no color had come through at all. Look at yours on the inside--has any sharpie come through?
To keep eggs in order, a skelter helps....this one fits in the fridge.

Plenty use a sharpie for marking hatching eggs with no ill effects,
so I'd think it would be fine for eating eggs.
Look at the inside of shells that have been marked, peel off membranes immediately after cracking, what do you see?
That said, I use pencil to mark egg if needed...
....just because I prefer pencil for most things.

We're trying to date the eggs so that we eat the old ones first, is sharpie ok to use?

Do whatever you feel comfortable doing. I've read some of the arguments.

The ink comes through. Actually it doesn't as you can check for yourself.

The fumes will come through as the solvent dries. Ask a physicist or engineer with a relevant background what they think about that one.

Personally I would not worry about it at all, but if it makes you uncomfortable find another way.
