I'm so old I remember bumper hitches on cars for towing trailers. Bumpers were built for bumping. You could buy clamp over trailer hitches for the family car to tow moderate utility trailers for a project and then remove it.

I remember when automobiles had a real frame. Once the frame got bent from a crash there were frame shops to straighten it back out. Supposedly. Body work has changed a lot in the last half century.

I live in a flood prone area and loss two cars to street flooding.
All the water has to do is get into the electronics (under the seat) and it's totaled.
I remember when as long as the water wasn't above the air intake you kept your foot on the gas enough to keep the water from flooding the tailpipe and you were going to make it home.
