The chickens have been doing well. There are a few that still get me worried, like Betty whose ascites need constant attention, and Butterfly (4 yr old ISA brown), whose cohorts of same breed and age all died in the span of a few months for unknown reasons. Still, the rest are healthy, and we...
Her mouth and vent look normal. I wasn't able to get a picture of her poop. I will keep trying but for now, describe it. It was runny, and yellow brown. The grains were white, and looked a bit like chewed rice.
She still will eat food. I have her on organic layer feed with the other hens. They eat small amounts of kitchen scraps like apple and carrot peels. I have to dip her beak in water to get her to drink. Once I get her started, she will keep drinking for a while. Her last egg was about two months...
Ladybug is a three year old ISA Brown. Ladybug has been very lethargic lately. She just stands or lies down in the sun. She doesn't seem to be in pain. She doesn't fully extend her neck and keeps it hunched. I have not seen her poop at all. Her vent looks normal, with a bit of poop on the...
I had a similar issue with one of my hens. She limped around for a few days (I left it alone because there was no sign of any damage, heat, etc.), but before long, she was beating all the other hens in the race to get to the grapes. Shrug. Observe for a few, and it might just improve without any...
My rooster also has a large comb, and it turns purplish black. I am not sure, but I think it might be something to do with how much exercise he gets. Once his heart rate increases, it turns red again (incidentally, his combs turns bright red if it is not already when he mates). Being skittish...
I know this is as late reply, but if you have a kitchen scale, wait till the eggs weigh 60-70 grams before incubating them. If the eggs are too small, there might be issues.
One of my EE is having some trouble. She is acting mostly normal, but she is a bit slower than usual, and sometimes pauses to make a squeaking noise that sounds like she's trying to cough something up. The worst part is, every time she inhales and exhales, a noise like her clucking comes out...
