Fertilize chickens egg through insemination

Hi I saw a thread about people collecting rooster sperm and injecting it into chickens to fertilize eggs. I want my chickens to have chicks but I’m not allowed to have a rooster where I live. Is this cruel? Also is this even an option is there a place to buy the “sperm”. Sorry if this is a dumb question. Please advise

Here's an old thread how to do it. You pretty much need to find someone with a rooster that would let you get semen from him.

Does anyone sell rooster semen? Is there a place to get it or do I have to find locally?

It would be much much easier to just order female chicks. All that trouble, if it's even possible, and you may end up with a dozen cockerels.

Do you have a broody hen?
If so, you could find fertilized eggs and let her hatch them.

I was JUST going to suggest this! Having silkies, I've always got a broody but not sure if everyone has.

If your hens go broody, get some fertile eggs and let her sit on it. Be aware, After raising them for 3-4 week, the hen will attack them to teach them to stay away from her to wean them. After another week, she won't care or know which ones are hers.

I would do as nuthatched posted above...
give a broody hen sexed chicks so I don't wind up with a bunch of cockerels where I can't have a rooster.

I have not done this personally, but my understanding is you let the hen sit on some fake/infertile eggs for the usual span of time (or close to it), then sneak some day old babies under her at night. But success depends at least partially on the hen.
