Sand run construction question..

Instead of filling it with sand do a perc (percolation) test. Dig a hole and fill with water. After it drains fill it again with water and see how long ti takes to drain. That way you can see what happens.

Yes you are right about the wet sand but would'nt the wood chips have the same problem if they were wet?

Nope, because the wood chunks(not shavings) begins to decompose the poops.
Can depend on how deep chips are and how much poop is there, my run is open to rain so that helps too.

We dug ours out and filled in with six to eight inches of sand. The run is covered as well, so everything stays nice and dry. I just put down forty pounds of PDZ and they’re having a ball dustbathing. It looks like a mosh pit in there!
