Hello all, We just picked up 6 new chicks from the local feed store. We got 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Partridge Rocks, and 2 Gold-Laced Wyandottes. Very excited! I did have a question about the Wyandotte combs...one looks totally traditional like a single comb with points, but the other one has a very flat comb, no points, and sort of rough looking. Is that normal? Does it have anything to do with the sex?

Thanks!!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X2, the Wyandottes should have rose combs, which is probably what the chick that has the flat rough comb has, the other may have a single comb, or may just be a different breed (especially if from a feed store).

I'm glad you joined us.

X2 on the above posters. Wyandottes are supposed to have the flat comb, but occasionally pop up with single combs.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join to our flock. The other members have given you good counsel. Hatchery grade Wyandottes do sometimes pop up with single combs and it has absolutely nothing to do with the sex of the bird. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
