The gorgeous, unique and fluffy Silkie is an ancient breed that comes from Asia. Silkies are truly one-of-a-kind breed of chicken; with their bluish black skin, bones and meat, mulberry bordering on their Blueish black combs, wattles and faces, beautiful blue earlobes, grayish blue beaks, and silky soft (hence their name) feathers, resembling fur and their wonderful fluff ball on their head called a crest!! heir are two types of Silkies: Bearded and Non-Bearded. Both types are stunning. These chickens are incredibly docile and human friendly, hence making them a wonderful breed for young children. But, Silkies do not do very well in very Hot climates nor in Very Cold climates, as their plush like feathers do not keep warmth in nor keep cold out. They come in a wide array of colors, including Buff, White, Black, Blue, Paint, Partridge Lavender, Red Pyle, and many more! They lay a small, lightly tinted egg, and are very broody.

The Silkie Chicken was first admitted to the APA in 1874.

The beautiful, unique Polish comes from Holland, although how old the breed itself is, is unclear. They are usually friendly and calm, but their crest and beard can interfere with their vision so they can occasionally become spooked when they realize something is near. Much like the Silkie chicken, they have large crest on their head, but they can also come with or without beards. They come in many colors and patterns, including Gold Laced, Blue, Black-Crested White, Silver Laced and many more!! Polish chickens were oringainlly bred as a layer breed, yet over time and breeding, they are no as good layers as they once were. Though they are still great layers, and rainy go broody. The Polish Chicken was first admitted to APA in 1874.

The beautiful, rare Orloff is an ancient breed that developed in the Persian Gulf region. They are a fairly tall breed, with somewhat of gamey appearance with their muffs and beards, though they have a calm temperament. The are exceptionally hardy and well suited for cold climates. Hens lay light-brown; they are very productive in their first year of laying, but after that they aren't the best layers. Orloff hens are rarely broody.
The breed was once recognized by the APA Standard of Perfection, but due to lack of interest, they are no longer APA recognized. Though the ABA does still accept them.

The Phoenix Chicken.

The Lon-tailed, unique Phoenix was developed in Germany in the late 1800's. The cock's tail can get to be a few long when mature. Though the hens lack that long, showy tail. Phoenix's are rather small and generally quite calm and sweet, but they are better when hand-reared. Hens do not lay many eggs, but they can go broody and are good mothers.
The Phoenix was first admitted in to the APA in 1965.

They are active, docile, big, cold-hardy, and adaptable to many situations. The hens go broody and are great mothers, they also lay a fair amount of very dark brown eggs. Langshans can be a dual-purpose breed, but due to their looks, height, feathered legs and toes, ad lustrous plumage they are a ornamental breed.
