Great detail! Only question I had after reading is: what's the perks to whole vs spatchcocked. Same with skinned vs plucked. I realize one method is easier, so maybe the real question is why would anyone want to save the skin or keep the bird whole?

The main difference is speed and ease. The skin is tasty, so that's a reason to keep the skin. You may want to keep the bird whole in case you want to stuff it.

Thanks for the great review! :-)

Can't wait to see how the adjustable legs work! If you still don't have a solid method, try screwing the nuts on a long bolt or piece of all-thread, and then solder/braze the nuts (with washers if it helps) to the wire mesh, that way the thread will raise and lower as you spin it. Just food for thought! Let me know when you update and i will re-rate!

Ummm, Sav/Ryn, there *are* long bolts going thru a nuts that are attached to mesh rack.

Would like to have heard a bit more...in general. I think there's a lot to the pecking order, but good article nonetheless.

I think the onky two methods missed were tail sexing and vent sexing (maybe more that I have not heard of). If you add them let me know and I will re-rate.

The pictures were a little hard to interpret, you never came back to let us know if it actually worked, and though it was not a how-to, it had plenty of inginuity that might require at least a little more explanation...

Nice feeder! Got a few questions though... Have you tried other shapes besides square holes? What kind of plate was that? (I realize a variety can be used, just curious) how well does this system prevent food waste?
Thanks for sharing!

Only one question, do you have to mount the feed bowl the the bottom so that when the tractor moves, it pulls directly on the screwhead? Or can you mount it on the side of the tractor so that it pulls left and right?

This is not a brooder, its a miniature coop! Very awesome set up, how long do you keep them in there? This write up gave me a million questions...
Sorry to be so blunt, but safety is important to me. The hardware cloth should be covered on both ends so that no one can cut themselves and the "water thingy" should be modified to prevent drowning. Also, though the words of the article were adjusted for pine shavings, all the pictures encourage splayed leg.
Lastly, this is not step by step, but more of, milestone by milestone.
Would have liked to know more about the build and the circuit, but the pictures definitely help form some ideas of my own!

Sorry to hear about your rooster, I like the simplicity of your brooder, but would encourage a few changes such as "netting" for the waterer. (Something to stop chicks from drowning)

Could use a little more detail for the less crafty, but I completely agree that with a foundational knowledge this is a great set of instructions, thanks for writing this up!

Which of these builds are helpful? Do any have specific focuses (escape prevention, arduino implementation, etc.)?
