I too have had turkeys for just 3 years...love em to pieces! , ate some and loved them that way too!
I have let my hens raise some poults this spring (no 'me' intervention)....I will update on how this goes. But just lets say: so far it's been a crazy trip and lost more than I would have if I had incubated them...
That said: i keep my turkeys in a bus! Far from orthodox raising methods, lol. [it's cleaned out regularly (approx. once a week) and lots of ventilation!] Some of the ones that didn't make it, simply left the bus and would NOT be contained therin!
I have a 'turkey paddock' in the works...update on that when time allows too.
BTW: totally into Heritage breeds!! I have Beltsville Whites, Chanteclers, northern Bobwhites, Rocky Mountain Horses
