Happy Birthday Chicklettes!
Monday, 27 July 2009 they were a week old!
Apparently, as a pressie, Momma Esther decided that it would be a lovely day to go outside for the first time into the run. This was also the week that here in the Pacific NW we had record breaking heat come thru :( In fact, here at the house we registered 104 degrees F on the hottest day! It was horrible! So, everyone got watermelon to keep them hydrated and cooled off some. I know I shouldn't really give the little ones the melon, but I figured it was better to keep them hydrated than have them die from heat exhaustion. Besides, I have been sprinkling their starter for them to hunt and peck for in the run as well, so I know they are eating that first :) Mercedes was so happy to have someone in the run with her....she had to go and love on her sister and say hello to the little ones. She even shared the melon with them, and helped Esther call them over to try it with the little "come and get it " chirps.

It was quite an adventure for the chicks! The outside is so big, and warm....sometimes you just need a nap :p And Momma's are sooooo comfy to lay on...and under...and over!! If you look carefully, you can see that there is a little beak poking out from under her wing, and on the left side of her fluffy bum :p
