I’ll build you whatever you want, honey.” ...and here is what I wanted...

I have to say something because I can't seem to get over the anonymous rating of 2 that you got. I've seen terrible coops get higher ratings and I think that Review needs to be removed. The points are not relevant unless you know what you're talking about. Meaning, chandeliers: I have 2 in my cooop that I've had for 20 years with zero chicken's attempting to roost on them. Paint: How many coops have paint? MOST. It does not create respiratory issues. Extensive predator proofing, jail/hospital opinions, not relevant. The roost stairs could be to close indeed, but a 2 rating? Come on.... Now for my rating. I give you a because it truly meets the needs of the flock to be safe, well cared for, well built coop, good article, sufficient detail. I'm sure you are proud of it, as I am mine. I see you haven't been on here for some time but if you return, I hope you chalk up the low rating to jealously. Thanks so much for sharing your sweet little coop!!
Nice build with good photos. Could use a bit more detail in the write-up such as plans, materials list, costs etc.
This coop looks lovely, and I can appreciate the thought and the work that went into it, but I have several issues with the design. My first impression was that the predator protections were pretty overkill unless you're trying to keep out grizzlies. But, whatever, that doesn't hurt anyone. However, I'd be worried about the paint on the interior. Birds have pretty fragile respiratory systems, and the fumes from most paints are toxic to them, especially when relatively fresh. Also, chickens tend to pick at paint and ingest flakes of it, particularly when they're bored waiting to be let out of the coop. Another issue is the hospital enclosure. It may work for an injured bird, but not for quarantining a sick one. In addition, while the chandelier is charming, it worries me. While this may not be too big an issue for large, round birds, if I had any of the smaller, flightier breeds (or even youngish pullets) I'd be worried about them trying to fly up and perch on the chandelier, which could knock it down and start a fire. In a similar vein, the roost situation leaves much to be desired IMO, the stair setup seems liable to have birds defecating on the backs of their flockmates, which may lead to birds roosting in the rafters, meaning they'd be caught in the ventilation drafts and be colder, as well as putting the chandelier in danger. I might be overly critical, but with this build I'd be more worried about the chickens causing trouble than about the predators eating them.

What a lovely little coop! It looks sturdy and well built.
Great coop you are one lucky lady. Your hubby is very talented. I love all the pictures, hope it's enough of a fortress to keep out all predators.
I cannot express how adorable this is. I love all the tiny details

Love your coop & story! ❤️ My goals were the same, safety & happiness for my flock & cute appeal, plus ease of cleaning & the joy of us humans hanging out comfortably with the flock often. Yes, the coop is the most wonderful "hang out spot" & kudos for Excellent work!!! Hubby's like this are Awesome! Hubby understands, the way to the woman's heart is through her chickens! 😆 ❤️ 🐔
You are so lucky! I wish my husband was that handy! I had to settle for a prefab one 😒. This is a great article, well written and gave every little detail that I thought I might want to see.
Beautiful coop! I can tell you put a lot of effort into it! It looks amazing!
Love, love, love this coop! Looking to restart having a flock and came across your build. Unfortunately, no hubby to build it for me...but will figure something out. I love the mirror, hospital/jail and paint job. I bet you smile every time you go to see your 'girlie girls'.
I absolutely love this! So charming! Lucky, spoiled rotten girls!!
The end product is very cute.

Now that it has been up and running for a while, do you find that you have a lot of mud in the run and water flowing under the coop? How are you stair stringer roosts doing? I would think the roost bars would be a bit close together and girls on lower bars may get unwelcome "mud" baths during the night!

The jail/hospital station is great. The surface is an excellent location for weighing birds and giving them health checks.

Have you ever needed to break a broody in the jail? I would think you would need a false wire floor about 5 or 6" up to really get the job done.

Overall it is a great little coop!

Thanks! I chose that location because of the slope! The run dries out really quick after days of rain!
