Roosters are a beautiful (and loud) addition to every flock. But fear of an aggressive rooster can make many people back down. Don't worry, with a consistent method and patience you can avoid this problem.

First, check your area laws to make sure roosters are legal (https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/categories/chicken-laws.13/). Then ask your neighbors if they are okay with the crowing. Crowing is a natural rooster habit and can't be avoided.

Do your research! I recommend reading: Rooster Flocks (AKA Bachelor Pads), Common Rooster Myths - Clearing Up Rooster Misinformation, Selecting Good Flock Roosters, and The Pro's and Cons of roosters.

You'll probably want to choose a method to use with your roosters. The sooner you start, the better.

I searched and collected all the methods I could find on BYC (BackYardChickens) about training roosters a put them here. They are organized by what I call the "Majority Rating" which can be found on the side or bottom of the article page under "article information."

In other words, the best and most used methods are at the top. I recommend reading through several different methods to find the one that works best for you.

I'll update every now and then, so the number of ratings should be fairly accurate. Enjoy!

Lots of helpful articles and resources here! Pretty nice!
This is a useful resource, as an index of well-regarded articles on BYC dealing with roosters, with an indication of how and how many other BYC members have rated them. Easily overlooked, that list is preceded by some recommended reading, which are other articles about roosters on BYC. It is not clear why they are not assimilated with or at least repeated in the 'Methods' list.
