Last year a friend from work was posted and was reducing their chicken flock and I recieved a hodge podge of different hens and a Chantecler Rooster. The pedators here made short work of half my flock so I decided to build a new coop for them and then build on the two Chanteclers I had left. The Coop is 8 x 16 and sided and painted to match our house, with a storage room at one end for food and supplies and a clean out door at the other end. There are six nesting boxes and lots of roosting space and it has vented doors and windows as well as the soffits are vented as well. I also added a covered area for them so that with the constant rain through the winter here they have somewhere dry to hang out. We raised three batches of chicks some from Ontario and the rest from my pair of Chanteclers so that now we have a dozen Chanteclers with more to come next spring so that we can have a decent size flock of this threatened Canadian breed.
