Hanging feeder that is 100% gravity driven and drops feed only if a chicken pecks at the target. I've got 3 of these for 20 chickens. Each bucket holds 25lbs of feed.

Materials needed
  • 5 gallon bucket with lid
  • 7/8th hold drill
  • 1/2" drill bit
  • 3/8th by 6" Eye Bolt and matching nut
  • Large Washers
  • Nylon Lock Nut
  • Target (I used lid to a container)
  • Cordless drill
Assembly
  • Drill hole in center of bucket bottom
  • Feed eyebolt through bottom (Leave eye inside bucket)
  • Drill 1/2" hole through target
  • Assemble target as follows
    • Nut - Washer - Target - Washer - Lock Nut
You're done! Fill with feed and hang so that the target is at a good pecking height.

As the chickens peck the target, more feed drops down. Anything that falls on the ground is always pecked up by someone.

I like these feeders because I can fill a weeks worth of food and they don't get wet with rain, chickens can't scratch out and waste feed either.
