Testing/calibrating incubator thermometers and hygrometers.

I'll take your advice and buy the one you suggested as its become obvious the industry standard is low and most instruments are unreliable or defective. Thanks!
Excellent article with supporting images and a good explanation of the physics behind calibrating thermometers.
Great info. One request: Can you add info on brand/model of thermometer and hygrometer you used?
I like your thermometer calibration method and the mod for the food thermometer is excellent! Going to try that one with my next hatch. Thanks!
The hygrometer info is most useful!
True, not a riveting fun topic. But, BYC gets lots of questions asking about correct temperature and humidly for optimal hatching.
Interesting point about mercury thermometers not being reliable on their sides. I'll have to stand mine up and check. Using a lab grade mercury and digital aquarium thermometers. The hygrometer thermometers shouldn't be submerged. How to calibrate? Check with medical or lab grade.

The freezer bag hygrometer test showed low at 65%. Was advised to use glass jar. 2 Hygrometers came up to 72/73% within 2 hours. Much better accuracy. Beware the sealable bags.

Check your batteries or have spares. Weak batteries will cause errors on hygrometers and thermometers.

The hygrometer thermometers shouldn't be submerged. How to calibrate? Many thermometers are not submersible either, you just need one or two to test then compare to any others.
Thank you!
Thank you for the clear & detailed instructions on how to calibrate!
