Why Do Chickens Dust Bathe?

Any insight on lime use vs DE? As a first time chicken momma I’m wondering if Lime is a safer alternative. TY for such an informative article; beyond helpful and I appreciate the wealth of such articles in BYC!

I have done research in regards to dust bathing as a new chickens mom and this article corroborates with everything I have read on other forums.
It’s for parasites control as well as keeping themselves clean.
