Perfect for what I need! I have two young roosters that I need a bachelor pad for, and needed to build a simple coop for them to place in an existing mobile run I have. I will likely modify this, but it’s simple and within my budget.
My almost 2yr RIR rooster is growing in a white tail feather. Wasn’t worried but just was curious why he might have it. Thinking it’s probably him getting older.
Currently doing this myself. Don’t own an incubator at the moment since I don’t want any more chickens after they finish hatching. I did one successfully last night, which thankfully was extremely easy and the chick had already absorbed the blood from the membrane. Now I have two more tricky...
Update: I came home and it turns out my mom just couldn’t see an egg. Another egg is beginning to hatch and I hear chirping inside. The other one, the chick has broken into the air pocket but I think will try to do so soon.
Thanks for commenting, it’s just really been bugging me she has been doing this. I think I will try to hatch this last egg when I get home. Hopefully it’s either already hatched and safe, or when I help it out, it goes successfully. I don’t like having to interfere with hatching, but since I...
They were alive and looked almost ready as of Sunday night, when her first 3 hatched. I moved her then with her other 4 eggs and chicks into the dog crate. It stays closed when I am not there so she doesn’t get disturbed.
Yeah I was really lucky I did everything right.
Yes, I did put it under the broody hen, although cautiously. She was trying to peck at its head at first, so I opted to just have the chick slide under, which worked. The eggs went under a little staggered, but we are definitely all at 21 days...
I’ve had two eggs disappear from under her the past two days. We are at 21 days. She is closed in a dog crate, and there is no way something else is stealing them. I had to do an assisted hatch yesterday because she kept pecking at the hole in a hatching egg, and I was worried she would kill it...
I have it under a heat lamp, but I just made the decision to put the chick down. I am seeing the insides of the chick and I know I can’t do anything really now. Now I’m just mentally preparing to do my first ever chicken cull. It’s hard because even though I know it’s the right choice, I still...
Update: this is not a vent prolapse. I will likely need to put this chick down. My heart is broken but it could very well have been that it was prolapsed before and there was nothing I could do.
Well Mumma hen, my RIR, did it! She now has 4 chicks, and has 4 eggs still under her. But the fourth chick didn’t seem to hatch right. And I think me trying to gently investigate this morning may have prolapsed the vent. This was like 7 hours ago and I have been keeping a very close eye on the...
