I loved your article! Nice to know I'm not the only one that thinks "henretirement" is a great option. We still have 3 original ladies that are 6-1/2 & they still lay eggs fairly regularly (Ameraucanas) They're Aunties/ Mommas (?) to a fairly diverse group

If it's any help, there's lots of fruiting shrubs that chickens will eat the fallen/lower fruit. I've planted a shrubbing raspberry & black currants to give them shade.
