This isn't very urgent, I'm just a little confused... So, I have 2 hens sitting on eggs. They are in makeshift nesting boxes inside of a little cage on our back porch. The boxes are spaced about a foot and a half apart. They are each sitting on 1 egg. Yesterday, I took the hens out, and when I...
I have a hen currently sitting on some eggs. Today is day 3 and I candled the eggs to check for anything, as I don't want her sitting on a nest with no fertile eggs. The only hatching experience I have was last year, but even then, the eggs were already a week into development when I got them...
Animals have a conscience. It isn't "God-given", not something special to our species. Some meats provide essential nutrients. It's easier to eat them than finding a plant-based alternative. Does that sound selfish, or lazy? If it does, remember that some people don't have access to the...
I had a chick like this a while ago. She was extremely weak, and as the others explored the brooder, she would just close her eyes, much like yours. Filled a syringe with some watered down and crushed chick starter and fed her using that. She eventually perked up, and she lived for a few months...
I think she can make it, with the proper care. They are bred to be killed very young, but they can survive. She will probably want to eat a lot, but monitor her feeding, as she can overeat easily. Good luck to you and your chicken!
What do you think lions do? Chickens eat dead animals all the time. The meat/egg industry is horrible and disgusting, and I hate it, but eating meat isn't a crime. I usually eat plant-based foods, but eating other animals is natural, not disgusting. I wish people could just let the animals live...
She started laying a few months ago. Her eggs have stayed that same size, and she is about the size of a serama. I think she has only had the eggs for at most 2 days, but I will candle them to see if there is anything.
We have a ten-month-old Japanese bantam x OEGB who went broody after another hen in the flock went broody. She is sitting on 4 eggs that are hers, which are about 1 and a half inches long and an inch wide at the center. We have two roosters, one of which has a hurt leg but still tries to mate...
I have not been on here in a while (a LONG while), but life has been busy, as always.
Thought I'd give another update on the rooster.
The side of his face that was rotting is completely healed, just no eye there. It's just skin. On the other side, his eye was starting to go downhill but now...
Thanks for replying, but we got it figured out. Mama sleeps in cage by herself, and babies sleep in the old cage. I know chickens like to sleep together, but Baby Chick (mama) was raised solo indoors and likes to be alone when she sleeps. So, we got it figured out (for now)
