I have a Americana/Silkie hen currently struggling with what looks like a reproductive infection.
She's around two years old, and hasn't laid for months. I'd been giving her daily calcium citrate+D3 but that didn't seem to help. She is now acting slow and lethargic and won't even eat scrambled...
My luck as well, I got a batch of chicks once and the friendliest one in the bunch (would fly onto your lap, snuggle into your hand, etc.) turned out to be a roo. 🤣
I already had a rooster so I had to rehome; still loved that boy to pieces though.
How many eggs do you get a day from them? Are...
:lau So relatable!!!
They are too precious!!! Thanks for the baby chick fix!
Those are all great breeds, all lay lots of eggs. Orpingtons are a favorite of mine!
Are these your first or new additions to your existing flock?
I checked her ears, they look fine to me. And she's acting perfectly normal and healthy otherwise.
Glad I can use both diluted/undiluted, but any reccomendations for what has worked better for y'all? I did undiluted last time with my other bantam, and she haaated it, but I'm fine going either...
I suspect one of my banties has and has had for some time an ear infection.
She frequently does these little head shakes and scratches at her head, and yawns often. For the longest time I thought it was just a harmless habit of hers, but by now I'm starting to wonder.
She has no visible...
I'm so sorry. :hit
I lost a chick to a prolapse last year, came out of nowhere. Especially with baby chicks, some things just can't be fixed no matter what you do.
That little one was lucky to have you.
The 'butt sticking out' indicates a prolapse. You'll want to separate that chick from the others to avoid them picking at. it, which could make the situation much worse.
Keep the vent moist by rubbing preperation H or even coconut oil or honey on the bum to keep it moist.
Tagging some...
Hard to say. The comb looks pretty small but I see a few small but suspicious saddle feathers, although I've had pullets have feathers like that in the past.
I'm leaning towards pullet.
What a pretty flock! What a beautiful assortment of eggs as well! There's nothing more pleasing to the eye than a collection of beautifully colored chicken eggs.
Good luck on your chicken keeping journey!

These two might be more knowledgable than I am.
The vent sticking out would indicate a prolapse, so you'll want to try to push it back in. Make sure she is seperated from the other chickens as they could peck at the prolapse and make it much worse or even a death...
