    Dormant raspberry canes

I think it's worth a try. Worst case scenario they don't grow and you try again. But a lot of time dormant roots are surprisingly hardy. I don't know where you live but I would be concerned about freezing weather if it does start to sprout. Maybe be sure to mulch heavily this year.

    Silkie 16 week sexing

I was trying to be patient but I think they're both roos. Neither is crowing. Thoughts?

Talk to me about house chickens and cats

I have a little 12 week old crossbeak silkie and I've been in denial that it could still be a pullet despite the large comb and black feathers extending past the tail. I'm not giving up yet 😅 but I think I should consider my options if Marianna is a... Mario? I got Marianna when I was picking...

is my chick going to be alright?

Happy to hear they're safe! Such a cutie! 🥰

is my chick going to be alright?

I've only done a few hatches, but it looks a little early to me. None of my chicks have had that much red in the membrane. I would leave it to finish absorbing and just make sure to keep your humidity adequate. ETA: I've only hatched quail and chickens. It's possible this is more normal for...

    Coturnix noisy at night?

I brood in the room next to my bedroom and very rarely hear them. They live in my sunporch off my living room and I only hear them when something is wrong (cat in the window, fireworks startled them, etc).

12 week old Light Brahma— roo or pullet?

Wanna trade? 😂 But in all seriousness hopefully you can find a roo in your area. If you got her from a breeder/farm I've heard of breeders trading out if they got the gender wrong and most likely they would rather have a hen than a roo.

12 week old Light Brahma— roo or pullet?

I'm new but I think hen. Here's my 10 week light brahma that I think is male. You can see the comb is much redder and more raised.

    Quail are not chickens!

I'm learning this but the opposite 😅 I had quail first and now raising chickens. One positive thing with quail is the quick timelines. By 6.5 weeks I have eggs with quail. Wild that I'll be waiting almost 6 months with my chickens. And quail were easy to sex but I found chicks much harder. They...

Is this little Scissor face a Roo? Best timing to trade out if so?

Ha yeah I suspected it may be a cockerel but I've been calling all my chicks 'she' until proven otherwise. 😅 I've resigned myself to waiting for a crow or an egg.

Is this little Scissor face a Roo? Best timing to trade out if so?

This is her, 12 weeks old. I belong to a group on Facebook for crossbeaks and lots of people have had their crossbeak babies for years living normal chicken lives, even with very severe crosses. Some torpedo feed or tube feed, others just provide deep dishes. Lots of their crossbeaks live out...

Is this little Scissor face a Roo? Best timing to trade out if so?

Just wanted to say, I have a crossbeak silkie and she is living a good life! Deep dishes for food and water help. Don't breed it, obviously, no matter what gender. But it can live a good long life with minimal accomodations.

    Breeding for longevity/long layers

I did a brief search but didn't see any relevant results. Has anyone here done a breeding project for longevity of egg layers? I feel like ideally you'd collect eggs from 8-10 year old hens that lay semi-regularly, age out those babies to 8-10 years, hatch eggs from the healthiest & highest...

3 New Female Muscovies are Starving

Looks like you got help from someone who knows ducks. Fwiw my group said to check if the poops are drier than normal and if needed try beak dipping or an eyewash bottle for water.
