Yes - and knowing parentage is important in knowing how their babies will pop out.
And no problem it's just genetics :)
A big thing with crossing in white causes the dilutions, where you start seeing white around the beaks etc.
Some of my best birds are saddlebacks!
My goal this year is...
Hi @Strawberry74
Grey SB / White - 50/50 Dilute Grey SB, Grey SB
Grey SB/Grey SB - Grey SB
Grey SB/ Grey - 50/50 Grey, Grey SB
Grey SB/ Blue Splash - 25/25/25/25 - Grey SB, Grey SB, Blue SB, Blue SB. There might be some dilution with these, as the spotting gene can throw some weird things in...
I agree w/ @Goosebaby. Need to see if they can clean it up, and I'd personally bring her inside in a low stress/impact environment so she couldn't accidentally break/grab it more.
I do worry w/ beak necrosis its because of maybe she can't clean out the feed from her beak, and bacteria is...
Tbh the wild weather up in the NE I'm expecting mine to start early too.
We had a whirlwind of snow/warm/rain. 20-60 degree swings and i'm like ugh lol. But maybe the weather plays a little role in it. I know a few people who leave babies with theirs up till October and they won't start laying...
If you are in the midwest/northeast everyone seems to be having babies start laying early. Sometimes they will start "early", but stop and then restart later once light starts picking up.
A bunch of sebbie breeders are having a random drop in eggs right now too so I don't think it's just random.
Do your birds eat the rats/mice or do you have a heavy population? With rat poison near if a mouse consumed it and the birds eat it could lead to issues.
I've noticed that a lot of the time coccidosis can kinda be sneaky and then all the sudden you have one really sick bird that won't...
Man going into winter with babies is brave!
I wait till about March unless someone requests and pays me up front LOL.
Goslings I'm hoping to have 30/40 hatch outs at least to pay for my new projects come spring :)
I really do like the blue boy. He's a bit of a psycho, but I sorted through all the bad hens and screwy tailed boys to get somewhere good I think.
I'm in the middle of goose prepping right now though, so next spring is going to be chaos I feel already lol.
@wrathsfarm How do you feel about them now? Some are slightly molting as its COLD now lol. But I'm really liking this little girl on the bottom and of course the boys.
Hi Queenie.
I only do colors for Sebbies right now. There are multiple breeders, but finding quality is hard yes. Sourcing is tough too as generally speaking they only have one hatch time (feb->june).
Happy Daze Ranch in OH I've dealt with personally. The owner does goslings and grow outs in...
Geese don't really peck for food they do "gnaw", but I'd have a tough time thinking they would go for it. I have some larger holes for buckets I've made. I also have open larger black plastic bowls on the ground.
I made my own pvc fittings for some lowes buckets under 15 dollars for 3 of them...
