Who here has chickens for pets?

I haven’t run meat birds for more than a couple decades. My birds are for egg production, and as such I can’t help that they become pets.

    Sun or shade

In summer…it’s nice for there to be shade to keep the coop a bit cooler. But in Missouri…that could be relative. Winter is a time of year where a bit of sunshine in appreciated, towards warming things a bit. If possible, locate the coop where it will be shaded during the heat of summer, and as...

Coop Project: Maken the Plunge & Getting Chickens

The best part are the girls. I’ve really missed my backyard flocks. Chickens are so personable… each with their own individual traits and unique behaviors They’ve been outside for a little over a month. They come when I call them… …and they’re always looking for treats

Coop Project: Maken the Plunge & Getting Chickens

I took a bit of a hiatus from chickens, about 3 years. Reason being…I inherited a dog that was chicken lethal. It took some time, but now he believes his job is to guard and not kill. His name is Zeus…and I love him dearly

Yeah...I just realized that my response to your post WAS WAY OFF...Please forgive my error. So...They are laying like crazy. I have my 4 original layers and my 6 replacement pullets. We're getting 5 to 10 eggs a day...and as a result my neighbors love my girls. As we all know, backyard...
