Yeah...I just realized that my response to your post WAS WAY OFF...Please forgive my error. So...They are laying like crazy. I have my 4 original layers and my 6 replacement pullets. We're getting 5 to 10 eggs a day...and as a result my neighbors love my girls. As we all know, backyard...

The girls started laying a few weeks ago...just not in the nest boxes. Dang...24 eggs lost. Silly Birds

I am weak...I could no more butcher one of my laying hens, than I could butcher my dog. So I have a lady that takes my old layers. She loves my birds because they are so well behaved and they come to her when she calls them. I called her last weekend, but they are moving into a new location in...

I broke 'em up and fed them back to the girls. I truly don't know how long they had been sitting on those eggs....could be a week or more.

Yeah it was quite a stash. I've been wondering when these Welsummers were going to start laying....I just never thought they'd be hiding their eggs. I don't know how long they've been taking turns sitting on the eggs but it kills me....2 dozen eggs wasted....DANG!!!

That's how I found the eggs...one of my Welsummers was sitting on the eggs. Fortunately, I do not have a Rooster.

The lighter colored eggs are from my older birds...so onesies and twosies from them. The dark ones are from my Welsummers, there are 6 of them... I just COULD NOT believe it when I looked in there and saw all those eggs...what a waste. I have no idea how long they have been in there.

In the last 5 years, they've laid inside the coop...not in a nest box...exactly twice. It didn't even strike me to look in the coop...we were always getting our 3 to 4 eggs a day from the older girls. I guess my pullets are laying....yeah!!!!

Here's a "What the Heck" moment... I go out to collect eggs and one of the girls starts talking to me from inside the coop. So I go around and open the side door. ...just how long have they been laying eggs here? Seriously? :ep
