What did you do in the garden today?

Question for those who vacuum pack their food... Where do you buy your oxygen absorbers? Amazon is cheap but not sure if I trust them... Would like to hear others' experience and feedback

Speaking of onions... I have some bulb onions that didn't grow very big before the tops died. Would you pull them out or leave them in the ground and see if they grow more next year?

What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah, mine are the ancient 3+ ft diameter trunk hardwoods. Knock on wood, we've never even had a heavy limb fall from any of them. The danger for us are the old dogwood trees that are about 20-25 ft from the house. The trunk of the dogwoods are also over 3 ft but dogwoods are notoriously weak...

Do you have any shade trees around your house? That's one of the main things that drew me to want this property when we were house shopping... There's at least a dozen enormous hardwoods all around the house and yard. They provide critical shade to help keep our house cooler... Of course the...

What did you do in the garden today?

Well... I did it. I bought the Small Harvest Right freeze dryer. I have a farm table that's in a little breakfast nook in my kitchen. We don't eat there as it's right by the door to the garage, opting for the dining room instead. I'm just going to put it on that farm table... Not ideal but will...

Seed Savers Exchange has a really good book on their website about how to collect seeds from just about everything. I've used it quite a bit over the past few years.

What did you do in the garden today?

I have corn seed from Baker Creek that was ordered in late 2022 or early 2023. I planted it last season and this spring. All of that has come up. Even the seeds I planted this year from the old packets. Just my personal speculation, but most of the seeds from them that I received from last...

What did you do in the garden today?

Oh yes... It was stupid hot and humid today. DH was outside hanging laundry on the line. I was like "you know that's going to take FOREVER to dry in this humidity?!?!". Thirty minutes later he came back in the house and I thought he'd doused himself with the house. Um.. Nope. He was just...

What did you do in the garden today?

Yes... I posted about this very topic a few pages back. I've bought quite a few seed packets (over 3 dozen+ through 2 different accounts). I didn't post everything on here but after I noticed how many packets had ZERO germination, I started to look closer. Of the dozens of purchases I've made...

Collected about a dozen picolinos. Decided to make a jar of bread and butter pickle slices. Those suckers are quite productive...

What did you do in the garden today?

Re-sowed the Borage from a different seed packet. We'll see if this one grows anything... I threw some dill seed in the same general vicinity just to see if something else germinates in that area... BTW, when I was looking over my tomatoes yesterday, I noticed a bunch of frass on the...

What did you do in the garden today?

Hmmm, we didn't have either drought or extreme cold. Maybe they are reacting to something sprayed in the atmosphere? Catawbas seem to be very sensitive to those things. More so than Concords...

What did you do in the garden today?

I noticed my Catawba grapes are full of fruit, but no foliage. Very weird... You can see them here behind the roses My Concords, on the other hand, are a jungle.... And they are just a few feet down the fence from the Catawbas.
